Description: I. Series of test firings from LCA, intended to clear a passage through mined beach defences: 2 inch mortar fires grapnel and 250 ft of cordtex to cut tripwires, and grapnel and Schermuly line to pull out trips; 3 inch mortar fires practice bomb carrying 1000 ft of Schermuly line.
II. "AVRE and PETARD". Churchill AVRE of 1 Assault Brigade, RE, is embarked on a LCT(5). CUs of Petard mortar and ammunition. AVRE is landed on the beach and fires three shots, from 60 ft, at a length of "Dieppe Wall". Final HA.MS of breach in the wall.
III. "Scorpion". A Valentine Scorpion is driven on and off of LCT(4) 596, which lies drying out on the beach. The tank enters the sea to wade to 6 ft depth. Cut to LCT 596 in shallows - Scorpion disembarks, wades ashore, and operates flail - camera pans over beach before and after the operation, showing the position of the lightly covered mines, and the beaten path made by the flail. Final sequence shows the Scorpion moving over a short course, exploding six mines. The vehicle kills flail power and stops, a crewman emerging through a hatch on top of the superstructure.
