Title:CROSSING THE LINE CEREMONY ONBOARD HMS ADAMANT [Allocated Title]
Film Number:ADM 1763
Other titles:BRITISH NAVAL OPERATIONS IN THE FAR EAST [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: HMS Adamant brings returning service men and women into Sydney harbour. On the voyage to Australia they enjoy a boisterous crossing of the line.
Description: Opening sequence shows passengers looking out over the rail as the ship enters Sydney harbour - the cameraman focuses on two couples their arms linked affectionately. Passengers include Australian troops, RN and FAA personnel. Cut to main sequence showing crossing of the line. The ceremony is given extra interest by the presence of a large number of women, whose ritual ducking is carried out with great gusto. At the end of the ceremony a fire hose is turned on the crowd, and the canvas pool is unlashed, the water spilling over the deck. As the men stand in the emptied pool a life-jacket throwing fight begins, and the pool quickly becomes choked with thrown jackets - more hose spraying and jacket throwing is starting up as the film ends.
