- Summary: Aerial views of Belfast, life in the Marine's overcrowded billets in a requisitioned girl's school, and street scenes showing patrol activity and the OPs from which the security forces survey the city.
- Description: Aerial views of Belfast from a helicopter, followed by views of the streets from a moving vehicle - some of the terraced houses have been abandoned, the doors and windows bricked up. More aerial views of the city, including the port where Maidstone and Hartland Point are alongside as accommodation ships. Cut to cafeteria-style mess where men serve themselves with food. A soldier feeds a fragment of a meat sandwich to an appreciative puppy. MS over the Marines' makeshift accommodation - camp beds crowd the floor and washing is strung across the room. A Marine reads the 'Daily Mirror'. Another man sleeps - on the floor near him stand two GPMGs. Another room is equipped with bunks. The men's pin-ups, including a Castrol calendar. A Marine writes a letter. Cut to a cook carving ham while two men peel potatoes. More of the crowded accommodation - one man has his camp bed set up beside a water tank. A Marine sits drinking a can of beer and talking to a friend who has set up his bed beneath a billiard table - the top of the table is fenced about with kit, while in the middle is an assortment of CS grenades, rubber bullets, flares, two packets of DAZ washing powder, a pair of track shoes and other paraphernalia - a SLR lies in the foreground. MS to the tiny window of a cubicle, then pan down to the camp bed - a suitcase serves as a bedside table, and supports a portable radio. Cut to exterior scene - a RM party relaxes over mugs of tea and cigarettes. Two Austin Land Rovers are driven into the courtyard, which is muddy and dotted with large puddles. Within a sandbagged sentry post a soldier removes the magazine from his SLR and checks the action. A returned patrol goes inside - three riflemen and one man carrying a Sterling. Interior of a (?) classroom taken over as an accommodation area - a man rests on his bed, wedding photos pinned up above him, another sleeps in his bunk. MS of a sandbagged post with a low roof of corrugated iron - two marines peer out. Interior of OP where a rifleman stands at the ready - camouflage netting has been draped over the post to obscure the interior. HA view over terraced housing. View from a vehicle entering an army compound crowded with Humber Pigs, Land Rovers and Bedford trucks - a Saracen APC is leaving as the camera-vehicle enters. LS of Ashfield Girls' Primary School where the Marines are billeted - their ensign flies from the school tower and there is a protected sentry post at the gates. A Land Rover enters the school grounds. Interior of canteen again as men queue up for food. A Marine reads a book, another loads a rifle magazine. Cut to a marine rifleman entering a police station - he removes the rifle magazine and checks the chamber as he passes through the heavily protected entrance. More shots of the classroom accommodation - pan from pin-ups on the wall down to clothing draped over a radiator and a soldier lying in a sleeping bag on a camp bed.
