Summary:
Description: I. MS of LCT(2) 142 in rough surf - she disembarks a Churchill into deep water - the tank is immediately in trouble as the engine floods and clouds of steam emerge. Waves break over the stalled vehicle. Rescue DUKW broaches to, waves catching it on the port beam and driving it onto the submerged tank. LCT disembarks a second Churchill which also stalls immediately, the crew climbing onto the turret top as the vehicle floods - they are taken off by rescue DUKW.
II. In more moderate conditions, LCT(2) 142 disembarks Sherman and Churchill tanks. They wade ashore, halting in the shallows near an already parked Sherman - the three vehicles then begin to reverse back into the sea. LCT(3) 340 also disembarks a Churchill and a Sherman. Sequence showing two LCTs disembarking Shermans into deep water - the tanks wade ashore and park in a line on the beach. Scammell Heavy Breakdown stands by. Turret ring seals are blown off and crews emerge to clear away remains of the waterproofing. Shermans run about the beach and through shallows just after emergence - in several cases, tank commanders are seen tugging at the lines supporting the exhaust and air intake trunking.
III. LCT(5) 2422 disembarks a Humber Scout into shallow water, followed by seven Humber Light Reconnaissance Cars.
