Description: I. Manus. MS across flight deck of an escort carrier in anchorage - the elevator is lowered to ventilate the hangar deck, and the open space railed off. Along the deck edge are parked Seafires and a TBD Avenger, wings folded. HA as gun crew man 2 x 40mm Bofors, remove covers from the ammunition feed and train the gun - in the background is anchored HMS Pioneer.
II. Replenishment at sea. Fuel line is streamed astern to be picked up by a destroyer. MS along flight deck to island and Seafires parked forward. MS from after sponson past 40mm AA to port bow of refuelling destroyer, now close astern.
III. Gunnery practice. Sequence shot from island as 40mm AA aft on portside fires off. Flak speckles the sky. On deck are Corsairs, one aircraft with the engine covers removed. HA aft as crewman unreels a hose along the deck. Man in anti-flash comes up companion way to the bridge.
IV. Jackstay transfer at fleet replenishment point. HMS Norman (D.16) closes on the carrier and receives a light heaving line. Frame is rigged on the flight deck and jackstay hauled across to the destroyer. The traveller bears a spreader span from which are suspended two canvas containers, and in one of these a man is brought across from the destroyer.
