Summary: Trials of the British amphibious truck on Hayling Island.
Description: I. Reel one. Trials of Terrapin I. Laden with four tons, a Terrapin I surmounts a pebble ridge to descend into the sea - slight surf, "LCV 753" standing by offshore. Various MSs of Terrapin underway - pitching somewhat as it meets the waves - and returning to the beach. Terrapin drives dryshod onto "LCT(2) 142", reverses out, and drives on and off. LCT in deep water. Vehicle requires two attempts to climb the LCT vehicle ramp from the water.
II. Reel two. Terrapin II is driven along seafront road to beach, where it enters the sea, followed by a DUKW - both vehicles then demonstrate their turning circles. Terrapin tows 17-pounder AT along the beach. Terrapin comes up steep shingle beach, labouring a little, and climbs line of dunes. Sea trials: Terrapin II drives from deep water up the ramp of "LCT(2) 162" - it succeeds after some hesitation. Vehicle then re-emerges, reversing back into the water. MSs of Terrapin underway, and running up the beach with 17-pounder AT as cargo. DUKW uses A-frame and winch to unload AT gun. MS from the beach as Terrapin, crowded with spectators, makes away from shore. Final shots of the Terrapin, followed by DUKW, crossing vehicle park behind the dune line - presumably before descending onto the beach for tests.
