Summary: Elements of TG 111.3 arrive at Kiirun in Formosa for the evacuation of POWs. Cameraship HMS Argonaut.
Description: HMS Bermuda heads inshore, followed by HMS Argonaut and HMS Quiberon. They are met by a Cha 1 Class submarine chaser, which puts off a skiff with a pilot for Bermuda. The patrol boat lies to, rolling heavily in the swell, as the skiff labours to return to her. As Bermuda enters the bay, four Corsairs from Colossus circle overhead, followed by a flight of Barracudas. Argonaut enters the anchorage, passing sunken merchant ships - locals watch the cruiser pass from a breakwater. MS off port quarter of Bermuda, already secured alongside - she flies two large White Ensigns from mainmast. Pan over shattered buildings along the quayside, and HA onto a small squad of Japanese soldiers marching past the ship with sloped arms, led by a sword-carrying NCO. Three Edsall Class escort destroyers pass the British ships - they include USS Finch (328) and USS Brister (327) - their crews crowd the sides and some men wave. Cut to onshore sequence, with various shots of a deserted POW camp - huts, washing facilities, etc. Interior of a hut shows raised sleeping areas with futons along either side of a row of tables in the central gangway - dirty bedding is scattered around and bowls stand on the tables, giving the place a seedy and abandoned air. Exterior shot through doorway of hut to beds and tables inside.
