Summary: Unedited scenes of the submarine HMS Grampus casting off from her depot ship HMS Adamant and heading to sea.
Description: I. HMS Grampus lets slip from alongside the depot ship HMS Adamant and moves down the loch towards the open sea. OOW, Signalman and Navigating Officer on the bridge are joined by the Captain, who is given binoculars and foul weather gear - he takes microphone and gives orders for unmooring. As the submarine pulls away, OOW salutes and Signalman pipes while Captain cons the ship. Once on the open sea, the bridge crew (Captain, NO, Signalman and AB lookout) wear sweaters. NO takes a bearing. Signalman uses Aldis lamp.
II. HA sequence, shooting forward from bridge fin of Grampus, underway at sea. The ship, already trimmed down, begins to dive - deck and sonar hump submerge. She re-surfaces, and the sequence is repeated from normal trim - water sprays into the air as she vents tanks. MS from the focsle aft to the bridge fin. HA.MS from bridge to after deck and ship's wake, with the submarine at cruising and creep speeds. Final shot is LA from interior, shooting up the bridge hatchway as the Captain descends ladder and dogs the watertight hatch.
