Title:WORKER AND WAR-FRONT MAGAZINE ISSUE NO 2 [Main Title]
Film Number:UKY 451
Other titles:
Summary: The second in a series of Ministry of Information "news magazine" compilations issued for screening in factory canteens etc.
Description: I. An item contrasting a 1942 Agricultural show with the Royal Agricultural Society show in Windsor Great Park in 1939. The pomp and ceremony of the earlier event have given way to more serious efforts to teach and learn. Brief shots of George Stapleton, Lloyd George, Robert Hudson; commentary makes usual point of regretting that a war was needed before agriculture was appreciated.
II. The National Union of Seamen, bombed out of London, have acquired a "stately home" for office space and contemplate continuing its use after the war; film considers this pattern a potential salvation for England's troubled country houses.
III. Schemes to extend part-time employment of housewives in factories - day nurseries, child-minder schemes, careful working-out of time schedules, etc. Film stresses that part-timers are reinforcements, not intruders.
IV. Talent night at a USSR factory, in its own theatre; the film also shows the performers at their normal shop floor tasks.
