Summary:After a less than impressive showing against British and French forces, the Egyptian army bolsters its self-esteem by dynamiting the De Lesseps statue.
Description:LS across outer harbour at Port Said to the De Lesseps statue - dense smoke drifts away from around the base of the figure. A ladder is set up against the statue's plinth to lay another charge and there is a second small explosion. HA to the focsle of a LST alongside to starboard of the cameraship (HMS Dalrymple ?), with its bow doors open - crewmen stand watching the show. HA to quarterdecks of two salvage craft alongside to port. LS to the statue again - another charge is being laid. A third, larger explosion, and the statue topples forward into the canal. Disturbed sea birds take flight, while on shore, crowds of Egyptians run forward to gain a better view - and, no doubt, collect fragments for sale as souvenirs. LS pan over blocks of flats to the now bare pedestal.
