Summary: Documentary film on the Invincible Class aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal (R.07), beginning with a brief biography of Sir Walter Raleigh and the exploits of the first ship to carry the name "Ark Royal" against the Spanish Armada. The film then looks at the current Ark Royal's medical facilities, engines, bridge, operations room and bakery before looking at the two ships to carry the name during the First and Second World Wars. An officer is shown on the bridge carrying out tasks related to the ship's navigation, the ship's Sea King and Sea Harrier aircraft are discussed and the launch of the previous ship to carry the name, an Audacious Class aircraft carrier, is shown. Finally the current Ark Royal is shown under construction and the importance of sea power to the United Kingdom is re-emphasised as Sir John Gielgud gives John of Gaunt's 'Sceptred Isle' speech from Shakespeare's Richard II, Act II, Scene I.
