Summary: Anne Welsh, wartime Air Transport Auxiliary ferry pilot, takes a nostalgic flight as passenger in a Fairey Swordfish aircraft.
Description: (Tape 1) Lengthy opening sequence (21 minutes) showing a C41 Dakota being prepared, at Gosport, with interior shots of take-off, flight and landing. This is followed by shots of two Swordfish aircraft of the Royal Naval Historical Flight being prepared and started (hand crank). Mrs Welsh, in helmet and flying jacket, climbs into the navigator's seat. Shots from the aircraft as it takes off (pilot is Lieutenant Commander Hugh Dukesbury) and flies over Gosport (ship in far distance is the US Navy carrier "USS George Washington"). (Tape 2) Further aerial shots from inside open gunner's compartment of Fairey Swordfish: below are shots of sea (aircraft carrier) and Gosport area. Landing - tailplane view.
