- Description: I. Reel One. Air operations onboard HMS Glory. Deck crew fold wings of a Sea Fury prior to striking her down on lift. Four Sea Furies start up engines, and one taxies forward onto catapult - the aircraft is hooked on, chocks removed, and deck crew run clear - the aircraft is launched - second Sea Fury taxies forward. CU of crewman refuelling a Sea Fury. Sea Fury with wings folded is manhandled forward - a tractor tows another. Sea Furies and Mk 5 Fireflies taxi forward along flightdeck - Firefly WB 346 carries a sonobuoy under each wing. LS aft through raised crash barrier as two Fireflies land on. LA.MCU of Glory's Westland Dragonfly THE THING. HA view from island as Sea Furies are catapulted off, followed by Fireflies. Firefly manhandled aft onto lift. LA.MS of crewman operating signal searchlight. II. Aerial sequence shot from helicopter. LS of HMS Glory and a destroyer refuelling from a Wave Class tanker. III. Onboard HMS Theseus. HMAS Bataan (D.191) close alongside for the transfer of senior officer. Bataan hauls off. A rocket-armed Sea Fury runs up - it is a pleasant, sunny day. Dragonfly hovers overhead. Sea Furies land on and taxi forward to parking area. Tractor tows a Sea Fury aft. Out of focus sequence showing ships in company and aircraft circling in to land on. Study of Theseus' helicopter - undercarriage is chocked up and the rotors secured by tethers - a man in the pilot's seat talks with another standing on deck. Men load 60-pound rockets onto a rack on a fork-lift truck - the driver prepares to move off. On deck maintenance - mechanic greases and makes fine adjustments to engine of a parked Sea Fury, armourers load rockets into aircraft's port wing rack. IV. Reel Two. Aerial sequence shot from Glory's helicopter - HMS Glory and HMAS Bataan refuel from a Wave Class oiler. MS off the port bow of HMCS Huron (216). LS of replenishment operation - Huron has now taken up position abreast the tanker, but has not yet connected up. Camera-aircraft circles close to Glory. MLS of Bataan. V. Aerial sequence showing life raft with ditched pilot - HMCS Huron closes on the raft and then makes stern way and points to hold station while the pilot is rescued. VI. HMS Kenya bombards enemy troop concentrations. HA from bridge to forward turrets - A is fore and aft and B on the port bow - Union Jack air recognition mark painted on top of B turret - the ship steams slowly through a slight sea. B turret fires a full salvo at medium elevation, firing then continues with centre barrel only, smoke blowing back into the camera as the ship keeps up a deliberate fire. Another full salvo - centre barrel fires - a third salvo. MS of a crewman watching the bombardment, leaning against a deckhouse with arms folded. B turret fires another salvo. CU of crewman - a second man puts his head into frame from the left. VII. October-December, 1950. LS of Chagyak-to Island seen from ship's boat from HMS Ceylon. Crew go ashore and cut timber to provide winter firewood for the island community of twenty orphans. Men pose with the children. The men return to the ship lying offshore - as they approach Ceylon, a US LSD is visible in the background, frame left. VIII. May, 1951. Demonstration landing by Royal Marines from HMS Ceylon and Kenya on the west coast of Korea, opposite Cho-do Island. Confused shots of Royal Marines in a small boat in the dock of a LSD. Cut to shots of Marines running through shallows and up the beach to dune line - cameraman himself lands during this sequence - in the background, a dozen LCVPs can be seen lying offshore (only three carried troops). A second wave of men follows. MS to officer and radio-man as they stand looking inland - a mortar has been set up and begins to fire. IX. Memorial Day service in the Allied Cemetery at Pusan, attended by representatives of the UN forces fighting in Korea. The ceremony takes place in heavy rain. X. Reel Three. Continuation of last episode, Reel Two. Rear-Admiral Scott-Moncrieff is preceded onto the central saluting point by Rear-Admiral A E Smith, USN, CTF 95. XI. Confused sequence between the visit of Vice-Admiral H M Martin, Commander Seventh Fleet, to HMS Ladybird, British HQ ship at Sasebo, and Rear-Admiral A K Scott-Moncrieff's inspection of British Co Class destroyers. (i) RM guard on Ladybird order arms and unfix bayonets. (ii) Scott-Moncrieff inspects divisions on quarterdeck of a destroyer (HMS Cossack ?). (iii) Side party await the arrival of Scott-Moncrieff. (iv) RM guard on Ladybird fall in as Scott-Moncrieff's ADC sees off a USN Lieutenant - presumably Vice-Admiral Martin's aide. (v) As (ii), Scott-Moncrieff inspects divisions on destroyer - the men are assembled in the space amidships where the forward TT (torpedo tubes) would be carried, and alongside A turret - in the background of the later sequence are US destroyers moored alongside a depot ship. (vi) HA.MS aft down starboard side of destroyer from foremost AA island, as Scott-Moncrieff is piped onboard. XII. Reel Four. Continuation of the end of Reel Three. Scott-Moncrieff inspects focsle division - the ship's captain (Captain V C Begg of the Cossack ?) turns round to stare into camera, and then steps clear to give a better view of the Admiral - alongside, to port of the cameraship is a Canadian Tribal Class destroyer. XIII. Memorial Day Service, Pusan. Representatives of the UN Forces are assembled at the central saluting point. It is still raining hard. Scott-Moncrieff leads the VIPs back to the shelter of the refreshments tent. XIV. Scott-Moncrieff inspects divisions on the quarterdeck of destroyer (cf Reel Three, sequence XI, ii). XV. HMS Ladybird. Vice-Admiral Martin is piped onboard. Cut to Scott-Moncrieff and Martin coming down companion way from upper deck - Martin departs. XVI. Reel Five. British Commonwealth War Cemetery, Yokohama, 12 June, 1951. Captain, RN, lays wreath as Cross of Sacrifice is unveiled. Prior to the unveiling, C-in-C British Commonwealth Occupation Forces, Lieutenant-General Sir Horace Robertson, inspects detachments of Royal Navy and British and Australian troops, and delivers an address. XVII. Rear-Admiral Scott-Moncrieff visits a Royal Marine training ground - he inspects the troops, watches a demonstration of abseiling, and talks with a RM mine clearance team and a US colonel.
