- Description: Opening sequences show cruisers underway in line ahead (Tuscaloosa in the van, followed by Quincy and Glasgow ahead of the cameraship Enterprise), and the task force forming up. Men exercise with skip rope on focsle of HMS Enterprise. Commander Hoskyns looks through binoculars. MS of USS Nevada. USS Murphy passes. Enterprise holds station ahead of Nevada, with USS Emmons as escort. XLS of smoke screen and shell splashes - two minesweeping trawlers in the middle distance. Various shots as Glasgow, Nevada and Enterprise open fire. MS off the port quarter as HMS Glasgow is struck amidships, on the hangar - a dense cloud of smoke drifts away astern. Glasgow is hit again on the after superstructure, and straddled twice as she gets underway. Hazy MS of Nevada (taken within a smokescreen), and MLS of the battleship underway, the smoke of a salvo drifting away astern. Shells fall around Enterprise. MS aft along the port and starboard sides showing 4in guns trained over the beam. USS Quincy goes past at speed. Bridge scenes. Flagship USS Tuscaloosa passes. USS Emmons lays a smokescreen around Enterprise - MS along curtain of black smoke as cameraship enters the screen. MS aft to white smokescreen being generated on the quarterdeck. MS of Benson-Livermore Class destroyer, dead slow with stern into the wind, maintaining the smokescreen. USS Nevada passes, guns trained broad on the port bow. MS to task force in line ahead as Enterprise closes from the port quarter - Glasgow leads Quincy and Nevada. MCU of the loading of a 4in gun. Final LS to the task force in line ahead - view obscured by superstructure.
