Summary: Activities of British personnel from all three services on a visit to Cambodia (Kampuchea) in October 1992 assisting UNTAC (United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia).
Description: I. Further interview with Japanese Army Major Abe, concentrating on his living arrangements - he is sharing a house with Major Hugh Morgan Owen (GB), Major Saliakov (Russia) and Captain Jones (USA). Shots of cantonment site, including weapons (small arms and field artillery) returned by various armed factions and now under guard.
II. General views (interior and exterior) of the Cambodian palace of Angkor Wat: Captain McKellen RM uses the palace as a backdrop to give a "Welcome to Cambodia" piece to camera.
III. CPAF (Cambodian People's Armed Forces) encampment; Japanese officer talks with CPAF soldiers and British officers. Shots of encampment including weapons store in the corner of a hut holding weapons which have not yet been cantoned: Cambodian soldiers relax in hammocks inside the same hut. Interview with senior CPAF officer through interpreter; he is happy with the presence of UNTAC but cautions that peace may not return through them. British officers inspect captured weapons. Interview with Major James Gray of the Queen's Dragoon Guards about his role working with the cantonment team where soldiers are disarmed, taken to a safe area and kept under guard. He discusses problems with the surrender of various factions and also notes a personal link with Cambodia (his father was defence attaché to Cambodia in 1975). Interview with Major Hugh Morgan Owen of the Royal Regiment of Wales about his experiences, relations with various factions and positive impressions of Major Abe (with whom he is billeted). Interview with Major Mike Harris about his work in Cantonment Team 209 and also gives an account of an attack on a Cambodian village by one of the factions.
