Summary: Damage sustained by HMS Aurora when hit by a bomb between the after funnel and the 4-inch gun deck at 16.23 on 30 October, 1943, in the area of Kastelorizo, while transporting troops and equipment for Leros in company with three destroyers. Casualties were 47 killed and 30 wounded.
Description: I. Opening LS sequence shows a bombardment at dusk. Aurora conducts a night bombardment - flares are fired.
II. Bomb damage. A crewman kneels on the deck, connecting together lengths of hose. LA.CU of the after funnel riddled by splinters and distorted by the blast. Men play hoses onto a damaged 4-inch gun - an explosion of charges in the ready use locker throws up a column of smoke. MS off the starboard bow of escorting destroyer HMS Petard (G.56) - she flashes a signal. Crew continue to play hoses onto the 4-inch gun deck. MS of corpses lying on the deck. CU of twisted debris. Final MS forward along starboard side, panning right from Oerlikon position by ship's crane to 4x2-pounder with crew closed up - the rear of the forefunnel bears some splinter marks.
