Title:TRIAL OF FLOATING FOOTPATHS FROM LCI(L)S [Allocated Title]
Film Number:ADM 1034
Other titles:INVASION EQUIPMENT TRIALS [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: Trials of various floating walkways to bridge water gap between LCI(L) and shore.
Description: I. LCI(L) 505 approaches shore and extends port brow ramp carrying a pathway made up of wooden flats, stacked concertina-fashion. When the ramp has been fully extended and lowered into position, the flats are unlocked and unfold one at a time, the trackway extending out over the surface of the water. In first trials the trackway does not reach to the shore. Seven crewmen run out to the end of the trackway to test its buoyancy. The track is then recovered, each section being hooked to a line and winched into storage position and locked up.
II. Rubber boats linked in series are automatically inflated from the shore - the line consists of only four boats, but takes some time to deploy, and the third boat rides up over the second. MCU of a single boat with slatted wooden deck.
III. Continuation of I. LCI(L) 505 extends floating trackway to the beach. The vessel is too close, and the trackway having reached the shore can no longer extend freely - it therefore buckles as further sections unfold, and those sections unable to deploy remain blocking the brow ramp. Crewmen run along the track to shore. LCP(L) 561 stands by.
IV. A small skiff is used to extend an inflatable walkway from the starboard brow ramp of LCI(L) 505. The walkway stops well clear of the beach, and a crewman wearing swimming trunks runs along the inflated track, dives into the sea and swims off.
