"THE VISIT OF FIELD MARSHAL THE VISCOUNT MONTGOMERY OF ALAMEIN, KC, GCB, DSO, CIGS, TO BERLIN ON APRIL 6TH AND 7TH, 1948": Field Marshal Montgomery arrives at RAF Gatow in his personal aircraft, Douglas Dakota IV KN628, where he is greeted by Major General Herbert. Field Marshal Montgomery inspects troops, and visits the NAAFI Club on the airfield.
"THE OPENING OF THE FREY BRIDGE ON 16TH DECEMBER 1948": Major General Herbert officiates at the reopening of the Freybrücke bridge in Spandau, Berlin, the original of which had been destroyed in a bombing raid during the Second World War. After the opening ceremony has taken place the bridge is officially declared open and locals throng over the bridge.
