Summary:
Description: I. A Royal Army Service Corps convoy consisting of a dozen or more DUKW amphibious lorries and one motorcyclist despatch rider rolls along the Winchester bypass (?) towards Southampton and thence to Normandy.
II. Royal Army Medical Corps orderlies help wounded soldiers recently returned to the UK from 'Gold' Beach onto a hospital train at Southampton Central Station. Three 50th Division troopers (from the 86th Field Regiment Royal Artillery and the 5th East Yorkshire Regiment) share a last cigarette before boarding the train. Casualties are unloaded from an ambulance outside the station. Walking wounded make their own way along the station to board the hospital train while medical orderlies use porters' trolleys to get the more serious cases on board.
III. Casualties come ashore from US Navy tank landing ships moored at an embarkation hard at Southampton Docks and are put aboard Austin K2 ambulances. The reception committee includes US press photographers. An LST in the background loads up with US Army trucks for the return trip to the invasion beaches.
