Description: I. Opening HA.MS to launch as it pulls away from the camera vessel. MSs from Despatch as LSD Northway passes - the blockship Alynbank visible in the foreground. Cut to view of caisson line from a small craft, and stern-to CU of an anchored tug, US ARMY ST 764, and two companions (one apparently named PERIEOSCOPY) - LCVPs in the background. MS of A1 caisson 27 under tow.
II. MS along deck of caisson as crew prepare for its sinking: commander gives directions over portable W/T - MS off the port beam of a passing US steel hulled ARS - towing hawser from tug led round port fairlead - ropes thrown down to secure camera-caisson to an already sunken neighbour - crew members operate valve controls and holds are flooded, while others take in slack on forespring - water rises over 25-ft depth marker inside the hold and interior gangway is submerged.
III. CU of inner spherical bearing at end of Whale roadway span, supported by erection tank. CU of the gap between the spans. CU as the end bearing is positioned in the guide, and a sergeant passes grommet strops through the end sheave for connection to the bearing housing. CU of the narrowed gap between the spans. LS over 'Whale' (note deck house) to merchantman and tug, T10.34. Erection tank flooded. MCU of bearing housing. Decking laid down. HA.MS of SLUG boat approaching with mooring shuttle, and CU as the shuttle passes beneath the roadway span.
IV. MS, broad on the port bow of tug T10.33, towing a 'Spud' pierhead with attached telescopic roadway span. MCU and pan along pierhead 419. Various views from pierhead and floating roadway, as the two are linked together - US ARMY St.780 acts as beam tug on portside of the pierhead. Pan right along roadway to the coast. LA.MS of 'Spud' legs silhouetted against the evening sky.
