Summary: 1st Corps units establish themselves in the Orne bridgehead.
Description: Traffic belonging to units serving with both the 27th Armoured Brigade and the 51st (Highland) Division heads eastwards into the Orne bridgehead over 'Pegasus' Bridge, spanning the Caen-Ouistreham canal at Bénouville. In the background can be seen the three Horsa gliders belonging to the 2nd Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry 'coup de main' party which captured the bridge on the morning of D-Day. A column of despatch motorcycle riders and lorries led by Dodge tipper trucks heads westward towards 'Pegasus' Bridge. In the 5th Battalion Black Watch's positions near Bréville, a soldier erects a single-man tent and another gets his hair cut by one of the Battalion's barbers during a lull in the fighting. A signaller does routine maintenance on a No 22 (?) wireless set and checks the acid level of its batteries near Battalion HQ.
