Other titles:TRIAL TO DETERMINE OPTIMUM GROUND LOADING FOR VEHICLES DRIVING OVER CRATERED TERRAIN [Alternative Title]
Summary:
Description: The trials involve Centaur Mk III tanks and a laden CMP Ford F60L 3-ton 4x4 truck being driven near to and across craters made in a sandy beach by various naval and artillery shells, aerial bombs, mortars, 5 in rocket, 3 in flexible snake, and simulated Tellermines. Vehicles are also driven over filled craters, which have been left for two tides. The trials are carried off without mishap, although the test vehicles become stuck in soft sand, and have to be recovered. The recovery bulldozer itself becomes bogged down in some clay, and is towed out by a Centaur. Other vehicles present include a Bedford 15-cwt and a Humber heavy utility staff car.
