Film Number:ADM 1393
Other titles:POST-WAR NAVAL OPERATIONS - KOREA [Allocated Series Title]
Summary:
Description: MLS off the port quarter of HMNZS Taupo (F.421) in calm sea - submarine visible in the background as cameraship, HMS Whitesand Bay, and its two companions steam in quarter line. Shots of Taupo and the submarine Tactician in line astern of cameraship. The submarine runs past to starboard of Whitesand Bay. The manoeuvre is repeated - as Tactician passes she vents tanks and submerges. The submarine makes a third pass, camera holding on the bridge fin as she submerges and picking up the raised search periscope as it cuts the water - attack periscope is also raised as the submarine pulls further ahead. LS ahead from bridge of Whitesand Bay as Hedgehog fires, the camera holding on the pattern of bombs - unfortunately, the camera angle is too high, and the area of impact falls just below the bottom of the frame. Whitesand Bay steams over the impact point. MCU of Commander Craig Waller (?) and a Lieutenant on the bridge - they are looking out onto the starboard quarter, and smile as they sight Tactician surfacing. MLS off the port bow of Tactician as she vents tanks and begins to submerge, raising her snort as she does so.
