- Summary: The visit of Admiral Mountbatten (C-in-C Med) and Lady Mountbatten to Benghazi and Tripoli, August 1954.
- Description: Lady Mountbatten (Commandant Red Cross) disembarks at LST jetty, Benghazi, where she is greeted by Brigadier A W Brown (Commanding 25 Armoured Brigade District, Cyrenaica) and together they visit the British Military Hospital Benghazi. Lady Mountbatten talks to patient (serviceman's wife). She departs from Hospital, and embarks for return to HMS Glasgow. The Wali (Governor of Cyrenaica province of Libya) Sayed Hussein Bey Mazek embarks in barge to return call on the Commander-in-Chief. Libertymen coming ashore from Glasgow are met by Army personnel and taken to parties; in Arab part of town. Royal Marines band beat the retreat. Local view (two-domed building in background is Roman Catholic Cathedral). C-in-C Med embarks at Benghazi jetty. Local scenes: sailors outside cafe, Bedouin encampment, Sailing Club, RM band on promenade and marching up from Ceremonial Jetty onto Castle Square, Tripoli, to beat retreat. Visiting ships seen in background: Glasgow, Surprise, Constance, Comet. More shots of band. Those present include Admiral Mountbatten, Lady Mountbatten, Lady Pamela Mountbatten, Captain and Mrs Dawnay, the Acting Wali (Acting Governor of Tripolitania) and the British Consul. C-in-C and guests leave. Tripoli harbour from Glasgow with Surprise and Comet in harbour. Regatta crews from Glasgow train in harbour ready for Med Fleet Regatta. The Wali embarks in Glasgow, greeted by C-in-C. Further scenes: Lady Mountbatten at British Military Hospital, being greeted by Army Medical Officers and seen with hospital patients (including child), and Royal Marines Band beating the retreat in Castle Square, Tripoli.
