Summary: Unedited footage of Sir Christopher Cockerell, the inventor of the hovercraft, visiting the Griffon Hovercraft works and piloting a helicopter in the Solent (the first time he had actually done this).
Description: (Tape 1) Sir Christopher Cockerell gets into a hovercraft (GH 9474) at the Griffon Hovercraft works. The hovercraft takes to the Solent and, at one point, Sir Christopher takes to the controls. Hovercraft returns to land escorted by two Royal Navy hovercraft. Sir Christopher also visits the Hovercraft Museum and unveils a plaque on board the SRN4 hovercraft "Swift". Final scenes of spectators at the Griffon Hovercraft yard. (23 mins)
(Tape 2) Extended aerial views from helicopter of Sir Christopher's flight, showing GH 9474 flanked by two support hovercraft; camera focuses at intervals on several smaller hovercraft. Final shots show the hovercraft landing back at the Griffon yard.
