Summary: Film produced by the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment about routine decontamination procedures used during the testing of atomic weapons. Introduced by AWRE scientist Dr Catherall, the film addresses in detail the various decontamination procedures initiated after a weapons test including the decontamination of aircraft used in the test and of personnel who enter the testing area.
Description: "This film illustrates routine decontamination operations on a peacetime weapon trial. The procedures shown have been developed in order to meet peacetime radiological requirements, and have been recorded without special rehearsal. Although in general such procedures are carried out correctly, certain examples of bad practice will be noticed. These serve to emphasise the need for understanding and strict discipline in the principles involved in entering and leaving radioactive areas and conduct within such areas".
