Summary: Members of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, probably at the Army Maintenance Depot at Etaples and at a bakery in Dieppe, France, September 1918.
Description: In the cookhouse one woman takes a tin from the oven while another pulls a second tin from the back using a long pole. Other women work stirring porridge or cutting meat. (The scene shifts to Dieppe - "the largest bakery in France with QMAAC attached".) One woman cuts off pieces of dough for loaves, a second weighs the pieces and a third rolls them into spheres. As one tray is completed it is taken away. After baking, the women carry the trays out and loosen the loaves. A posed group of the women, very camera conscious and unable to stop laughing. More tray carrying. A WAAC officer blows a whistle for a practise air raid drill and the women file out of the cookhouse to the shelter. A shift leaves work, men and women coming out of a refreshment room. Car maintenance by WAAC members, most of the lorries and cars belong to 63rd (Royal Naval) Division. The women take the engine out of the cars for work on a bench. Two women hose down and clean a car, while another woman fills a petrol tank. A final scene of several of the WAACs talking in a group.
