This Valentine’s Day, be careful what you say!
Clip from Film: IWM (COI 157). Other Men’s Lives (1944)
Careless Talk Costs Lives
Well-meaning citizens could easily compromise national security and soldiers' safety with careless talk during the Second World War.
This clip is from a propaganda film aimed at factory workers to raise awareness of the risks of disclosing potentially sensitive information. The Careless Talk Costs Lives campaign was created by the Ministry of Information in response to security concerns on the home front where rumours were rife about enemy spies and collaborators living amongst the population.
How well do you know our film collection? Celebrating one year of 'Clip of the Week' on LinkedIn
Every week for the past year, the IWM film licensing team have selected a clip to post on IWM’s LinkedIn page with the aim of highlighting the breadth and depth of the film collection, drawing attention to the diverse material that is available for licensing. Our posts consist of a range of anniversary-led themes, social interest and unique highlights from lesser-known corners of the collection.
Follow IWM on LinkedIn to see our clip highlights each week. We would be thrilled if you can comment/like/share so they find a wider audience, or please provide feedback on the type of content you would like to see more of.
