Summary: An account of the visit of four British trade union leaders to the USA as the second phase of an exchange visit.
Description: The 8 men (Britons and the 4 returning Americans) arrive at New York, and are greeted by Mayor La Guardia; in Washington they meet Mrs Roosevelt and various Federal officials: a meeting with representatives of US Labour organisations is followed by sitting in on a 'typical' labour-management meeting. The party then splits up, each American taking one Briton to his home city: film follows one to Detroit (Chrysler plant) but concentrates on the film's narrator, who goes to Los Angeles - tours the Lockheed plant with his host and sits in on a Union meeting, also meets the Screen Actor's Guild executive board. Delegates reassemble at Washington for a repeat meeting with Labour organisations, then set off home by air. Prevailing topics of discussion: cooperation with management in war against Fascism; post war questions (return of forces personnel, unemployment, relations with managers); role of women.
