Summary: Fictionalised film showing how important the understanding of fear is, and how this understanding is the beginning of courage.
Description: The film begins in the bedroom of the child, Peter, with his mother putting him to bed. He starts to cry when she turns off the light. Cut to Peter at school: he has to see the headmaster but cannot think what he has done wrong. When Peter enters his study he discovers that he hasn't done anything wrong, and that the headmaster merely wants him to take the senior course in French. The next scene shows the headmaster alone in his study; he is thinking about Peter and in his thoughts he shows signs of insecurity. The film's concluding segment argues through the headmaster that many mothers and fathers have the wrong attitude to fear, that they should help their children face up to fears and show them that life can be friendly. The film argues that this will help now that there are new difficulties and fears to face, by naming the events of the war on the screen. The film ends with a scene in the nursery and argues that with fear in its proper place we can look to the future.
