Title:WITH THE VICTORIOUS BRITISH TROOPS ON THE AMIENS FRONT [Main Title]
Film Number:IWM 281
Other titles:
Summary: British compilation film of their own and French forces during the German 'Kaiserschlacht' offensive on the Western Front, March-April 1918.
Description: A selection of the most visually attractive film taken by the British official cameramen during March and April (for the GERMAN OFFENSIVE series) without regard to date or place, padded out with stockshots of marching Allied troops and German prisoners. Starting and ending with Amiens, the film stresses that despite German efforts it did not fall. There is virtually no action and no fighting except for some distant shelling. There is heavy emphasis on cooperation between British and French forces mixed together, and on the part played by the Cavalry of both nations. The film's attitudes and limitations are conveyed by one scene of British and French soldiers relaxing captioned as "eager to meet the enemy, allied troops resting in a wood".
