Scenes showing cadet instruction in classroom theory, practical seamanship, navigation, signalling, squad drill, life saving, etc. (Reel 2) "The Birth of a Standard Ship". Shipbuilding scenes. Launch of a Standard Tanker. Female dockyard labour. Armstrong Whitworth workers. Medium-shot group of merchant officers serving in the Army Supply Corps. Arrival of a hospital ship and disembarkation of the wounded. Troopship leaves harbour. (Reel 3) "The Work at the National Docks". Various cargoes unloaded - grain, meat, sugar, wool, timber, etc. India Line vessel in dry dock. General view of the docks and ships alongside - including a rather archaic cargo/passenger vessel with a clipper bow. (Reel 4) "The Toll of the Sea". Trawlers at sea and in port. Panorama across fleet anchorage taken from forward gunnery control of HMS Canada. Scenes onboard the battleship.
