Scenes showing cadet instruction in classroom theory, practical seamanship, navigation, signalling, squad drill, life saving, etc. (Reel 2) "The Birth of a Standard Ship". Shipbuilding scenes. Launch of a Standard Tanker. Female dockyard labour. Armstrong Whitworth workers. Medium-shot group of merchant officers serving in the Army Supply Corps. Arrival of a hospital ship and disembarkation of the wounded. Troopship leaves harbour. (Reel 3) "The Work at the National Docks". Various cargoes unloaded - grain, meat, sugar, wool, timber, etc. India Line vessel in dry dock.
