Summary:
Description: Admiral Cunningham comes onboard HMS Arethusa at Portsmouth, and shakes hands with Captain Dalrymple-Smith and Commander Robertson-Aikman. Admiral Ramsay comes onboard. MLS to quayside where Admiral Ramsay greets HM King George VI, who is accompanied by Admiral Little. The King comes onboard. MCU of Portal and Cunningham on the bridge. Various shots of VIPs. During the Channel crossing, Arethusa passes a group of LCT(3)s underway in line ahead. LS pan over invasion craft lying off Juno beach - Hunt Class destroyer escorts, LCTs, Dido Class cruiser, V Class destroyer, etc. HM leaves the bridge, and transfers to a Fairmile B ML which lies alongside near the starboard TT (torpedo tubes). Rear-Admiral Oliver assists HM as he transfers from the ML to a DUKW which carries him ashore at Courseulles-sur-Mer, passing a beached cargo vessel and a mixed group of LCTs (LCT(4)s with single specimens of type 5 and 6). Officers of LCT(5) 507 salute as HM's DUKW passes. The King disembarks (note Lieutenant-Colonel W J Humphrey, CO of 8th Battalion King's Liverpool Irish, and No 7 Beach Group, in the foreground), and shakes hands with General Montgomery - an AFPU cameraman records the scene. Cut to investiture ceremony in the grounds of 21 Army Group HQ at Creully - assisted by Major-General de Guingand, HM decorates Major-General Keller, GOC 3 Canadian Division, Major Turner of the Grenadier Guards, and Major L G S Sanderson. Montgomery leads defence company troops in cheering and HM inspects. Montgomery, Ramsay and the King then depart in Montgomery's Humber staff car ('Old Faithful') to go to the Naval HQ at Courseulles. Ramsay and HM then re-embark on DUKW which takes them back to waiting ML.
