Summary: A brief profile of the history and culture of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) member country Luxembourg.
Description: Joseph Bech, second time Prime Minister of Luxembourg walks to work. He greets passersby and once in his office, reads the news. The film then explores topics such as Luxembourg's national education system, employment policies and social welfare. Luxembourg’s location is ideal for setting the headquarters of a transnational institution like the European Coal and Steel Community. A long sequence shows the works inside a steel factory. Luxembourg’s agriculture is illustrated by several scenes of men working the land and then commentary is focused on wine making and forest exploitations that supply furniture factories. Other traditional trades like hide manufacture or pottery are briefly explained. Images of scenic castles are shown to bring up Luxembourg defence forces and NATO for which footage of soldiers parading and armoured vehicles is used . Extensions of the airport and road improvement works are carried to facilitate communications with neighbouring countries. The film ends with footage of the construction of a radio antenna made with steel.
