Summary: Partially Dramatised Army Instructional film intended to demonstrate the role of the Royal Engineers in preparing a defensive position. The Commander, Royal Engineers (CRE) of a division, after receiving orders from the divisional commander, briefs his staff officers and begins planning for the operation, specifically in terms of the manpower, stores and equipment required. The film then moves on to look at an Engineer Squadron commander who is delegated tasks in accordance with CRE's plans, makes his own plans and briefs his troop commanders. The troop commanders execute the plans, laying mines and barbed wire, preparing obstacles and defensive positions and demolishing inconvenient buildings. The use of nuclear weapons is mentioned briefly, both as a defensive measure against enemy advance and in terms of preparing soldiers for nuclear attack.
