Description: Reel 1: “This motion picture was made in collaboration with the Office of the Special Assistant to the Commanding General, AAF, in charge of the AAF Glider Program”. “Glider Techniques Report No. C-400”. On the after noon of July 9th 1943, C-47 aircraft and CG 4A gliders assembled at select airfields in North Africa preparatory to the invasion of Sciliy. Tugs and gliders take off. Mission accomplished and objectives taken. Different tow aircraft listed from Lockheed P-38 to Douglas C-54 Skymaster. Glider uses fixed or jettison-able under carriage depending on operation. Other equipment used for landing described. Design of CG-4A allows for quite harsh landings with little damage to glider.
Reel 2: Role of the “pick up” plane in recovering gliders after their use in training exercises or operations and method of recovery. Varying configurations of CG-4A for carrying troops, Jeep, Trailer, 37mm anti-tank gun or 75mm howitzer and loading demonstrated. XCG-13 experimental glider described. Tactical manoeuvre demonstrated as a 'scramble' of gliders and formations flying at high/low level. Comparison of paratroopers against glider borne troops.
Reel 3: Demonstration of mass glider assault landings and deployment of troops, vehicles and trailers/artillery pieces after landing.
