Summary: Hungarian film of their own troops in the Italian Alps, probably 1918.
Description: (Reel 1) The troops are at a skiing lodge in the mountains, well above the snow-line. The various groups go out on patrols, moving in single file up and down the mountain tracks at a height of 3500 metres. Two men ride in an aerial cable-car little bigger than they are. More men on the march like black dots in the snow. A heavy gun concealed in a gun pit, described as the highest gun in the Alps. A snow-cave dug in the mountain. A difficult climb up the mountainface. Men set out on ski patrol from the lodge. One group makes a climb with ice-axes. Other patrols continue up and down the paths. Men run around the campsite for exercise. The cable-car comes up and skis are unloaded from it. General views of the mountains. (Reel 2) A shell-burst lands beside an Austro-Hungarian observation post, scattering snow over the men. In response an assault company is alerted from its hut, while its 37mm mountain howitzer is manhandled into position. The men of the company run up the snow path and climb a rope ladder up the mountain face to reach the enemy. The 37mm opens fire, directed from the observation post by telephone, as the assaulting troops scramble up the mountain side. The shells burst against the Italian position higher up the mountain. As the Austro-Hungarian rush reaches the ground directly below the Italian position they have grenades thrown at them by the Italians. Stretcher-bearers take away an injured Austrian. Finally the assault troops storm the Italian position, using their bayonets as knives, then taking their prisoners and wounded with them continue on up the mountain.
