Summary:Introductory film in a series of six dealing with gas warfare and anti-gas equipment.
Description:Gas may be delivered in many ways, as a bomb, or liquid spray, or gas cloud. The effect of phosgene is shown, sprayed from a low-flying aircraft as 'smoke' which quickly disappears to become an invisible cloud. A man, 'Able Seaman Slowman', who fails to get his mask on in time apparently recovers from the gas quite quickly, but a few hours later is disabled. Blister gas: the effect of drops of the liquid gas after 24 hours is shown on a volunteer's arm. It is emphasised that phosgene and blister gas might prove deadly, but that tear gas only incapacitates. Anti-gas equipment will provide protection, providing it is used properly.
